ok totally loved your running story, and kind of mirrors mine (the younger years anyway!). I also started in 7th grade, and did distance for my Varsity team as a 7th and 8th grader (we were a SMALL school). I think the closest I got to a 6 mm mile was 6:07 though in 8th grade. Then I quit distance to be a sprinter. And I couldn't do x-country because it was during basketball season, and my coach threatened to keep me from starting if I ran and played ball. Sniffle. Probably a good thing, none of the xc kids run anymore. Thanks for sharing your story. :) no wonder you're such a speedy-kins!

Great story! Keep with it, and many things will go well. The old saying goes: the harder you work, the luckier you get! Good luck in your goal.

Maryland hills = a bitch for running. I remember training and running up the hill from the M to the Union and then down that huuuuuge hill on the side of the Union.

Half marathons are awesomely fun to train for and run so I definitely recommend that if you're looking for something different!

wow! that's awesome! I wish I'd run in jr high/high school. I wasn't encouraged to do sports at all, so I didn't start running until I was 29.

Those are some awesome times - I'm sure you'll BQ soon. (I'm planning on a BQ marathon when I'm 60!)

Nice story. You will definitely qualify for Boston, you are such a strong runner. I still use the motto run faster finish sooner on some of my runs! Although, my fast isn't as close to your fast.

LOVED reading this one! i have absolutely no doubt about you qualifying based on your regular paces.

i have to say i am always a little jealous of people who started running at an early age while i was spending my time cheerleading :) . . . but i never can tell whether their speed comes from experience, or if it's just that more gifted runners are the ones who gravitate toward running earlier!

You know you're a runner when you hear "Running Story" and your skin tingles with anticipation...

Thoroughly enjoyed reading yours and getting to know how/why you run so fast. Now I understand. Congrats with sticking with it through all those early year troubles.

I sincerely think third time is the charm for you. (Hey, I qualified for Boston in my third marathon too!) Actually, you probably would have qualified much sooner if there weren't all of those mitigating circumstances.

My best advice for you is just MAKE SURE YOU TAPER WELL for this one! No staying on your feet the night before! Other than that, I think you pretty much have it in the bag!

Best of luck in the rest of your training.

P.S. Thanks for spreading the importance of checking iron levels to all the young impressionable female blog readers of yours. Most people don't know they're anemic until it becomes very severe!

Haha I don't run, but I remember when I first got to UMD I was so exhausted by the hills! I'm from the eastern shore, where everything is flat as a pancake.
