a little off
It’s been kind of a weird week here in eastern Pennsylvania. I’m not quite sure what it is, but I am completely not capable of dragging myself out of bed anytime before 10:30 in the morning. And even then it seems like a chore. Yesterday I woke up (luckily) at 12:45pm, which wasn’t a ton of time to get ready for work. Even when I woke up I felt like I could have slept all afternoon. Magically the phone rang at 1pm and I knew I was getting called off from work. YAY! I had no clue how I would have made it through another shift (it’s been bad lately), so I was happy to not have to go in. I kind of sat around in a daze all day…when I have time off, I’m not really sure what to do with it. I have hobbies that I like to do (running, baking), but I didn’t feel like doing ANYTHING. I just wanted to sleep all day. It was even a nice day out! It’s some sort of weird funk that I think is better today, but I don’t feel quite right.
The bad part about getting called off yesterday is that I have to go into work today. At least I have two days off in a row! I don’t necessarily mind working on a weekend, but I don’t feel like one day off is enough to recover. Working for two days, then having one day off, then working four more days, then having a day off, then working for four more days is really tiring. I hate my job. For many reasons.
Moving on. I ran twice more this week, for a total of four times thus far, adding up to an amazing sixteen miles…and we’ve still got the weekend to go!
Wednesday, October 21
4.04 miles in 33:49, avg pace of 8:23
My quad and calf on my LEFT leg seemed really tight…maybe I overstretched my right leg and neglected my left leg. Who knows. I stretched both legs a lot when I got home…and of course spent some quality time with my ice cup.
Friday, October 23
3.03 miles in 24:54, avg pace of 8:12
Three miles is better than no miles, right? I didn’t really feel like running much (that whole funk thing described above), but I dragged myself out for three miles. It was fine. I have no clue how I’m going to run 23.2 more in about four weeks. Probably rather slowly.

Okay, enough of a downer post! Here are some exciting things to look forward to this weekend:
- The bakery around the corner from my house is reopening its doors to retail business, and every customer/family gets a free loaf of bread on Saturday! Definitely going to check it out.
- I’ve got some awesome cupcake recipes ready to try out, along with some Halloween cookie cutters that my fantastic mom sent me. I think some of the Rocket Scientist’s friends may come over to help decorate and bake and be merry.
- Attempting a longer-ish run this weekend. Like I may for an HOUR. Crazy, I know. We’ll see how/if the legs hold up.
- The CHICAGO BEARS play this weekend…I think they might be on TV, and I’m not working so I can watch. BEAR DOWN.
- I’M NOT WORKING. Always a good thing.
Good luck to everyone running the Marine Corps Marathon this weekend!! It was my first, so it will always hold a special place in my heart.
(How’s that for cheesy?)

Sorry to hear you’ve been in a funk lately. I have them every so often too where all I want to do is sleep. Sometimes it’s because I’m doing too much and wearing myself down. Othertimes it’s because I’m just burnout with work and life.
Usually working out or fun times with friends help perk me back up!
Hope you’re feeling happier soon!
Stick with the low mileage and built yourself back up slowly. I think it is normal to feel sluggish after some time off. You need to get all that stamina and endurance back. Hopefully, the longish run this weekend will help. Enjoy your off day!
Keep taking care of yourself. It’s a long off season. Good luck!
Sorry you are in a funk. I get like that sometimes too where I just don’t want to do ANYTHING. I’m sure it will pass in time.
Good luck with a longer run this weekend. My knee has been acting up and I’ve been running a lot less. It sucks!
Nice new site! Good job on the running too, I’ll be thinking of you on November 22nd! Even if you do run it slow, you’ll still be running it so that’s definitely something to be happy about! Good luck tackling your longer run this weekend! And I can’t wait to read about the baking you’ll be doing..yum!
I’ve hit those slumps before – usually when I’m burnt out super crispy & just need a break.
Your body will tell you when it’s ready
Sorry to hear about your funk:( Way to get out and do some miles though! I hope you can find a new job soon!
Aww, sorry about your funk! I hope things get better for you soon!
At least you can get out on the roads some, and you’re right–a three-miler is better than a zero-miler!
Mmmm Halloween baking! I love getting festive!
