Into My Kitchen: Blackberry Scones

For some reason, I had a hankering (wow, what a word!) to attempt to make scones.  Since I’ve never actually tried a scone before (or really knew what they were…), it seemed like an odd craving.  However, my baker self is up to any challenge, so I hunted for a scone recipe on the internet.  The internet is my favorite way to find recipes, since people usually post reviews or recommendations on how they changed the recipe or made it work better for me.  Works for me!

I came across this recipe for Blueberry Whole Wheat scones, which not only sounds delicious, but also a little healthy!  (Although that may just be in my head.)  Of course, when I got to the part about adding blueberries to the mix (pretty much the last step before “knead and put in the oven”), I realized that I had bought frozen blackberries, not blueberries.  Well, they must be pretty similar, I figured, so blackberry scones it was!  Here’s the result:

Blackberry Scones (1) Not the prettiest, but pretty tasty!

Blackberry Scones (3) Wow…what a bad picture.  Anyway.

I may or may not have taken the largest piece of scone.  It has a chewy, wheaty (is that a word?) flavor, and the gigantic blackberries had a nice fruity squish to the texture.  I probably could have used more blackberries, but live and learn.  I think my first adventure into scone-hood was a success!  It was easy to make (ten minutes plus baking!) and only messed up one bowl.  I’m a fan of easy clean-up.  Now run into your kitchen and make some yourself!  (Or come visit me.  We’ll have coffee and scones and it will be fabulous!)

I’ve never had scones either! But I have had weird cravings for one. I’ve never even seen someone eat one so I don’t even know what the texture is like! Weird.

By the way, I never worked for Lululemon, but I was there so often in the Spring and every Sunday for yoga that I’ve formed friendships with a good bunch of them.

Hooray for scones. I think those would go nicely with a mug of tea. :-) I have a recipe for pumpkin scones that I really want to try sometime soon.

Let’s runaway together and open a bakery. What a great idea!

I was thinking about possible names for our bakery today while pedaling away on the elliptical. Didn’t get too far. I did however dream up all sorts of tasty treats that we could sell :)

    Scones look yum!
