Rocket Scientist Birthday Celebration Recap

I know you were all eagerly anticipating the revealing of the Rocket Scientist’s birthday surprises…you’ve been on the edge of your seats since yesterday!  (Obviously you have nothing better to do!)  Lucky for you, your wait is over!  Here’s how we celebrated the Rocket Scientist hitting the quarter century mark:

gotta eat

imageNot my picture…thanks google images!

The first stop on our list was dinner!  The Rocket Scientist’s parents drove over to meet us for dinner at Winberie’s, located in downtown Princeton.  I’ve been there for happy hour (half price appetizers = fantastic), but never for “real food.”  It did not disappoint!  Check out the menu here.  I had the Cedar Planked Salmon, which came with roasted vegetables.  Delicious!  Note to self:  Roast vegetables more often.

let them eat (ice cream) cake

Now, I was going to be all adventurous and awesome and make/decorate a cake, but let’s face it.  Ice cream takes the cake.  I have a strong affinity for Dairy Queen’s ice cream cakes (and I’ve taught the Rocket Scientist to enjoy them as well), but the local Dairy Queen was closed for the season, so I called up Thomas Sweet in downtown Princeton to inquire about ice cream cakes, as I’ve seen the sign for ice cream cakes in the window.  Luck would have it that their ice cream cakes are amazing (what ice cream isn’t??).  Anyway, you can pick two flavors of ice cream, the filling, and a decoration on top.  Marvelous.

Note:  Here was our conversation about their ice cream cakes:
RS : “I didn’t know they had ice cream cakes!”
Me:  “We walk past them weekly!  The sign in the window!”
RS:  “Never noticed.”
Me:  “I must just have an eye for anything ice cream…and cake.”

So true.

Anyway.  Behold the ice cream cake:

As always, the real surprise was on the inside:

What’s that, you ask?  Vanilla ice cream, raspberry ice cream, chocolate chip filling, complete with M&M’s on top?  YOU BET!!

And it was fantastic, as demonstrated by none other than the birthday boy:

present time!

My parents sent a breakfast cookbook, complete with a sticky note on the favorite recipe that they tried.  Some people may now called this a “used” cookbook, but it always helps to have some reviews before you try something!

My gifts to the boy:

He asked for a Phillies World Series hat from his parents for Christmas last year, but I guess they thought $25 was too much for a hat (he got a GPS for his car instead…yes, I’m confused as well.)  Anyway, thanks to Ebay, he got his hat only a year too late.  I had to check the year on the hat to make sure it wasn’t the rejects from the World Series this year…that would have been bad.

Annnnnnnd….A GARMIN FORERUNNER 205!!!  If you have one, you know that running with a garmin has changed your running…forever.  I’ve had a 205 since Christmas 2006, and I loooove it.  RS hates the fact that it beeps every mile, but he secretly likes it.  He said he almost bought one earlier this year, so I went ahead and did it for him.

A runner’s dream…just in time for the marathon…woohoo!

And that, my (blog) friends, is a happy birthday.

Ridiculously quick run recap since I have to head to work in about twenty minutes…and I have half of my lunch left to eat…oops!

Wednesday, November 18
4.02 miles in 31:17, avg pace of 7:47

Last run pre-marathon!  I’ll do two crazy easy miles on Saturday just to loosen up, but all the work is done!  Now just time to rest (minus working…boo!) and carb load.  Weather is still looking good for Marathon Sunday, so let’s hope it sticks around.  :)

Ice cream cake is seriously the best! I need to figure out a way to make a vegan one for myself.

Winberies used to be my jam! My girlfriend and I would meet our Princeton friends there every weekend since, let’s face it, there’s nothing to do in my town unless you want to go to the grocery store. I’ll probably wind up there on Thanksgiving eve too! Always a central location for anyone from around these parts. That ice cream cake looks delish, Thomas Sweets definitely does not disappoint. Yay for great presents!

That cake looks delicious. Great presents for the RS. My BF’s birthday is in a few weeks and his best friend just stole my present idea….and now I’ve got nothing.

Oh my gosh, you’re the greatest gf ever! Will you date me!?!? jk, but those are some seriously thoughtful gifts, which are truly the best kind. I have a huge spot in my heart (and consequently my stomach) for ice cream cake, it’s just SO. DAMN. GOOD. And I like how they did the M&Ms in a design, might have to steal that for the future. ;)

Happy B-day to the Rocket Scientist! That cake looks amazing. I’m also a huge fan of ice cream cake. :-) Looks like you got the RS the perfect gift, too. I’m seriously considering buying a Garmin to help me pace on my long runs. After hearing about so many people who are obsessed with them, I really should just buy one!
