Ativan, STAT

Let’s just say there’s nothing quite like starting your shift back from a mini-vacation with the need to get an order for Ativan.  Like, now.  STAT, if you will.  I was pulled to another floor (it happens on a weekly basis and I hate it) and started out with an admission who was yelling and screaming.  Ativan is a glorious, glorious thing.  Worked like a charm.

As a side note, I looooooove 300 pound patients who can’t move themselves and have constant diarrhea.  Welcome back, I should have stayed in Chicago.

Other things I enjoy since I’m on a roll:  Getting pulled to another floor for four hours and then having to go back to my own floor after four hours.  Well, since I was, you know, taking care of patients, I didn’t have time to complete all the paperwork for the admission.  Annnnnd I guess the next shift wasn’t quite happy about that.  I don’t like leaving stuff for the next shift to do, but I can’t really help it at that point…

sometimes you want to go where everybody knows your name

Soooo I joke about the fact that the nighttime employees at the 24 hour grocery store on my way home from work know me as “the girl who comes at midnight and buys candy and ice cream.”  Apparently it’s not a joke anymore, as I stopped on my way home to fill up on some fruits and vegetables (okay…and ice cream and sour gummy worms…I’m not ashamed.) and the check out guy asked me if I had any coupons.  (No.  I should work on that.)  To which he replied, “You’re just not a coupon girl, are you?”  AHH THEY KNOW ME.

At least they didn’t say, “Oh, no giant bags of M&M’s tonight?”

brrrr it’s cold outside

I apparently ended up taking an entire week off of running, which I suppose is what I get for “not feeling like running” and then just not running while I was at home.  Oh well, it’s my short time between the Philly Marathon and starting training for Boston, so I’ll take it.  It was quite chilly here when I returned from Chicago, and snow dusted the ground.  However, it warmed up to a deceivingly warm forty degrees.  In my mind, 40 degrees + snow on the ground = a little on the cool side, so I decked myself out for my first run in spandex of the year, along with a tshirt and long sleeve shirt.  About a mile in my run, I remembered that I ran a marathon not too long ago in shorts and a tank top…in forty degree weather.  (At least at the start.)  Needless to say, I was kind of toasty at the end, but I survived.

I suppose the numbers of runners I see on m runs (how few there were to begin with) will dwindle with fall marathons ending and the temperature dropping.  I did see one guy all bundled up (I’ve noticed that PA runners tend to overdress…a lot), and he actually said hi when I passed him!  What’s this?  Runners in my town are becoming friendly??  I don’t know what’s going on here, but I think I like it.

I’m a fan of winter running and the pace drops that accompany it.  Here’s to a speedy winter!

cookie monster

It’s that time of the year again…time for shopping, decorating everything in red and green, and eating COOKIES!  Do you have any favorite recipes you would like to share?  I have the usuals that I bake, but I’m always up for something new!

I’ve been reading all your posts and wanting to comment but then my accounting book slapped me in the face. I need to make this spiffy because I have exams but just wanted to say I did a music summer program at Northwestern and loved Evanston and Chicago! I went to SO many German markets in Europe last winter….so fun!! (or pretend ones since they weren’t in Germany). Hang in there…we’ll be putting your fortune cookie fortune to good use SOON!!

Getting pulled all over the stinking place is no way to get endeared to a profession that’s tough enough as it is.

I’m really sorry to read that this whole move isn’t working out for you, especially when my experience with Philly & nursing has been the polar opposite.

I hope you find what fits for you soon. That bakery idea is sounding good!

It’s funny…when I read the title of your post, I automatically asked…”Who’s seizing?” Anyway, it’s definitely not cool to be pulled all over the place…it completely takes you out of your element! Maybe the next time the cashier asks…you should ask him if there are any coupons for fresh fruits and veggies…there are never enough of those around!

Aw man, it sounds like youre having some rough patients. Hopefully it will slow down soon (knock on wood)!

Agreed, I love winter running pace drops!

I also agree that I would not like 300 pound, poopy patients.

The teenagers at the deli meat section of the grocery store started to recognize me. Guess I can’t come rolling in looking like crap since I don’t want to be the “one pound of cajun turkey girl who would be kind of cute if she fixed herself up.”

No M&M’s!!! I need to get my cookie list together, I am so behind on Christmas stuff. If you have any good recipes, you’ll have to share.

It’s probably not Too bad to have “friends” at the convenient store, right? Maybe one of these nights they’ll give you some candy for free or something! ;)

There’s nothing wrong with the ‘when everybody knows your name’ scenario. :-) I think it’s quite comforting and I definitely have my ‘corner shop’ people and ‘train buddies’. I like winter running too! :-)
