A Christmas Tale, Part I: Snow and BEAR DOWN!!

Greetings, blogland!  It’s been about a week since I last posted, and what a week it has been!  For your sake (and mine…), I’m going to update you on my holiday week in bits of pieces because let’s just say it’s been a crazy week!  If there is nothing else I learned this week, I learned that you can plan plan plan all you want, life is going to go its own way, no matter how hard you try.  So let’s get on with it.

saturday – snow day!

Let’s rewind to last Saturday, when the Rocket Scientist got back from Japan and I had my first snow run of the season!  Later that evening, we were supposed to drive to Baltimore to pick up my dad and brother at the airport, but due to the massive snowstorm that hit much of the east coast, my family’s flight was cancelled.  Since my mom and sister were supposed to start driving out east on Saturday anyway, they all piled in the car (Christmas presents and all!) and started the thirteen hour drive to Pennsylvania.  Since I’m a Chicago girl, the snow wasn’t really a big deal to me, so the Rocket Scientist (who was feeling less puke-y) and I headed out to run some errands.  Well, apparently my little town does not cope well with snow, so everything shut down around 5pm.  We couldn’t even buy a shovel to shovel all the snow!!

Dear Pennsylvania,
Please invest in more than one snow plow for the entire state.
Love, Susan

Since we couldn’t do much of anything Saturday night, I had nothing else to do other than bake!  I realize now that I didn’t photograph the glory from Saturday, and much of the evidence has disappeared into my tummy.  Oops!  My creations included:

  1. Chocolate chip cookies with M&M’s
  2. Sugar cookies (to be decorated later!)
  3. Mexican Wedding Cakes
  4. Egg Nog Cupcakes (with cinnamon icing!)Recipe here

I’m sad I don’t have pictures to share…but they were tasty, let me tell you!

sunday – BEAR DOWN!!

On Sunday, the Rocket Scientist (who had a tummy that was still rumbling!) and I headed down to Baltimore to meet my family to go to the Bears-Ravens football game.  My friend’s dad is the athletic trainer for the Ravens, so he gave us two of his tickets for the game!  My parents bought two more tickets so my dad and brother could go too, and away we went.  I’ve never been to a pro football game before, so I was really excited.  Our tickets were at the club level, which is AMAZING.  The seats are great, and if you get cold, you can go inside to where couches and giant TVs are!  I imagine this would be nice if you go to lots of games, but since it was my first game, we were outside most of the time.  My toes almost froze…literally.  I shoved napkins in my socks during the fourth quarter!  Photo evidence of my first Bears game!!

It looks photoshopped, but I swear I was there!!

Sadly the Bears didn’t get the W (in fact, I think Cutler threw more interceptions than the Bears had points, but who is keeping track??), but I had fun at the game anyway!

Funny story:  When I first got to the seats, I sat down (surrounded by Ravens fans!!) and the guy behind me yelled, “Go back to Chicago, Sue!”  I was really confused and kept thinking, “Do I know that guy??”  I turned around and asked him what he said, and he repeated himself.  Soooooo being awkward I asked him if I knew him, and he said no and looked really confused.  I told him that my name is Susan so when he called me Sue, I got worried that he knew me!  He randomly picked a name to yell, and it happened to be mine!  Sue/Susan isn’t really a common name, so it was very odd.  He decided that he should buy a lottery ticket since it must be his lucky day…I get half the winnings since I was the inspiration!  I haven’t heard from him yet…

After the game, we drove back up to Philly to get ready for our holiday!  Stay tuned to find out how nothing ever goes as planned…

Oh, snow. St. Louis isn’t prepared to deal with snow, either, and I can’t wait to find out what happens if and when we get more than a dusting.

So funny about the Bears game!

Hee hee. Isn’t it frustrating when people don’t know how to handle the snow! We are so used to it! (Even though I am not from Chi-town, we got a shit-ton of snow in Iowa).

Go home Sue! LOL! I am not a football fan, but I think it would be super fun to go to a game!

Sounds like you had a great time at the game even though it looked quite cold! Glad you’re enjoying the holidays, Susan!
