speeding my way to 1,588

There’s no better way to beat the Monday blues than a good run (or getting called off work!).  Unfortunately, I didn’t get called off work last night, but I did have an amazing run yesterday morning!  My legs are actually pretty tired today, so that’s a sign of a harder run, I suppose.  When I realized on Sunday that I only needed twenty more miles this year to hit 1,600 miles for the year, I figured I would run two shorter runs before on Monday-Wednesday and then run the rest of the miles on Thursday (since I get New Year’s Eve off!).

I started out with the idea to run six miles, but as I was running along, seven miles didn’t seem like such a bad idea, and it would cut down on what I would have to run later in the week if I wasn’t feeling it.  About a mile from my house, I was still feeling awesome, so I decided to head home a different way that would add another mile to my run for a total of eight miles.  Why not?  I felt kind of like Matt (except I don’t run double digits on a daily basis!).

I ended up with a speedy run, ending with a sub-7 minute mile!  (6:59 is sub-7, even if it barely squeaks in there!)  I would LOVE for 7:30 to be my marathon pace, but we’ll see…maybe with the cooler temperatures I could con myself into getting close to that.

Monday, January 28
8.04 miles in 59:49, avg pace of 7:26

I’ll take it, even if my legs are kind of tired today.  1,588 miles down, 12 to go!

pulled…….again

I was pulled to another floor AGAIN last night.  My floor shut down on Christmas Eve, as they moved our patients to other floors in an attempt to cut down on staffing for the holidays.  This is the second time my floor has shut down since I’ve been there, although I feel better about it this time because it let more people be home for the holidays.  Still not super thrilled about being pulled all the time, but I’ve spent the last three days on a floor I don’t necessarily mind going to.  This floor is MUCH more organized than the one I usually get pulled to, everyone is sooooo helpful (answering my call bells just because they have the time?  Thanks!), and I usually have a good night.  (I just jinxed myself, I realize.)  I wonder if they have any openings…

Speaking of job openings, stay tuned for my big plans for 2010!  It’s going to be a good year.  :)

Congrats on your impromptu speedy run and hitting a bit mileage goal for the year! I think 7:30 can realistically be your marathon pace the way you’re running. Great job!
