I can’t believe it’s only Tuesday
Oh my goodness what a week it has been…and it’s only Tuesday?? I don’t believe it. Not sure what’s going on, but I shot out of bed at 8:30 this morning…still tired, but I couldn’t go back to sleep! This is unbelievable for the girl who could sleep until 10 or 11 every morning (literally…I don’t have to be at work until 3!). I hope this doesn’t come back to haunt me at 9pm tonight..maybe I’ll take some reserve caffeine to work with me.
Work yesterday…yikes! My evening was actually pretty good, but the rest of the hospital was insane. A helicopter was landing on the hospital as I was getting out of my car (I thought a plane was crashing or something, it was so loud!), so I guess someone had to be flown to the city. Later in the evening, they called a code blue (you know…like they do on TV) in the radiology department, and one of the other nurses had a patient down there so we were worried it was that patient. Then they called it again! I guess it wasn’t on our patient since that one came back up a little later…but it was still someone else down there. AND THEN (yeah, we’re not done yet), a patient on the floor had major, major psych issues. It wasn’t my patient so I don’t really know what was going on, but I don’t think any medical issues were present. We don’t have any psych facilities in our hospital, so I really think this person needed to be somewhere else. We had a nursing assistant AND a security guard in with the patient, and the patient yelled for about an hour and a half straight. It took about six of us to hold him down so we could give him some medicine…twice.
I hate to say this, but I’m so glad that it wasn’t my patient…I am NOT a psych nurse by any means. I’ll take pancreatitis any day.
runningggg
I’m going to be traveling down to Texas this weekend for a wedding, so I’m trying to squeeze in most of my mileage before I get there, since Friday will be consumed with traveling and wedding stuff…probably will run on Saturday…and then I will literally be traveling all day on Sunday. (Leave Texas at 11am, land in Philly around 10pm…if my flights are on time…AWESOME.) It’s going to be glorious (and warm!) and we’ll dance the night away on Saturday (possibly Friday too..hmm). Anyway, the point is that running will be at a minimum later in the week.
Yesterday it was lovely out, so I broke out the shorts again…woohoo! I’m white as a sheet and probably blinded the drivers, but who really cares? The trail was still kind of muddy, so I was a bit of a mess when I returned home…that’s what showers are for, I suppose!
Monday, January 18
8.03 miles in 1:01:59, avg pace of 7:43
Not going lie…that pace was seriously cushioned by the fact that I really had to go to the bathroom. I’m all about the honesty.
Tuesday! I think there was frost on the ground when I woke up, but it cleared out by the time I ran. The sun was out…but it appears to be hiding now…it must know I have to go to work soon! I told myself I was going to pull back and go slower today…but that didn’t really work. This particular route is uphill the first half and downhill the second half…sooooo once I hit the back half I was unintentionally speeding up. Oops?
OH…and the people of my town really need to learn how to keep their dogs in their yards. I care how friendly you think your dog is, any dog that comes running down the middle of the road barking at me is not going to be my friend. End rant.
Tuesday, January 19 (when did that happen?? seriously.)
6.15 miles in 47:12, avg pace of 7:41
“Official” marathon training starts next week. Yikes!!
Where are you going in Texas? To Dallas!? That’s where I am from!
I’ve been running in shorts too and probably blinding some drivers! I raaaaaarely wake up early and can’t fall back asleep. It happens maybe once every 4 years haha. Have fun in TEXAS!!!
ahh a wedding this weekend! i feel like you always go to such fun events
hope texassss is warmer then here girl!
hahaha too funny that you ran fast because you had to pee
The shorts weather is glorious! Have a good time in TX this weekend!
My Tuesday was insane, too! First time on day’s and I ran, but it was fun. It started slow with my two stable patients, but then again patient coded, so I attempted to help with that. They saved him, then I ran around helping everyone from drawing blood, turning, and assisting with an MD cauterizing nasty skin tags. And then the patient coded again. During the code, my manager asked if i would walk around the unit to make sure everyone was ok (since everyone else was in the room). As soon as I walked out, the nurse next door frantically told me to go get suction set up and an intubation kit and to call RT! so then they intubated THAT patient.
But the craziest was when they had no option but to give me a 1:1 assignment. My manager did not want to, but she isn’t allowed to triple me. I had to give my patient away (other had been transferred) and then learn all about the rotoprone bed for about 2 hours until we brought the patient up from the open heart unit. Look up Rotoprone bed kci, crazy shit~~
I have a funny psych story, ask me about it!
