Into My Kitchen: Smores Brownies
I am a firm believer that when most people think of their childhood, they have at least one memory of eating smores around a campfire. Roasting marshmallows in whatever fashion you liked (lightly browned, black, somewhere in between!)…most people can remember making smores at some point in their lives. I remember making them as a little kid, carefully rotating my stick in order to lightly brown all the edges…sometimes pulling off the outer layer, slightly crunchy layer before smashing the inner gooey part between graham crackers and chocolate!
When I saw a recipe for Smores Brownies, I knew I HAD to make them. I’m currently in the mindset that everything I bake is in trial for my future bakery, and I definitely think customers would be interested in the idea of these brownies! Who can resist going back to the childhood? Also, the presentation would be pretty good as well…gotta think about people peering into the counter! Let’s get to it:
I used the Food Network’s Smores Brownie Recipe. It received good reviews, so why not? The only problem was that I don’t own an 8×8 baking pan, so I used a nine inch pie dish instead…worked just as well! Here’s the result:
Lightly browned marshmallows make for a nice topping!
Graham cracker crust, brownie, marshmallow topping…all the fixings!
So how were they?? I must say…I was a bit disappointed. I love brownies and the brownie portion just didn’t live up to my expectations. Also, these took over an hour to bake…the toothpick kept coming out wet! Not sure what that was about. I do like the idea of these brownies, but I think they need a bit of fixing up…and to sell in a bakery, I’d have to learn how to cut them so they look pretty.
battle wounds
While attempting to chop the chocolate for the brownies, I kind of chopped my finger…chopped out an entire chunk of skin!! It’s been a few hours and I’m still bleeding through the bandaid…probably since I’m typing and not putting pressure on it! I’ll throw some ice on it and see how it does. I don’t think it could be stitched since a literal chunk was taken out (sorry for the queasy ones out there!), so we’ll see. I’m only losing drops of blood so it’s not that terrible. Don’t worry, nothing got into the brownies!
Who knew baking could be so dangerous??
Stop by if you want some brownies! I doubt these would ship well….what a gooey marshmallow mess that would be!!

You see the photo of the 3 people on that recipe? I sat next to the lady (middle person) on the bus and chit chatted with her. She’s works in the FN test kitchen. Maybe I can ask her about the recipe
Maybe you can use a different brownie recipe but still keep the graham cracker crust and marshmallows…
Man, if I had cooked that recipe and had been disappointed in the brownies, my next step would have been to scrape off and eat all the deliciousness that is roasted marshmallows. I might have to go out and buy some to roast today, now.
I will be up there in a few minutes
Yum yum! Love the smore brownie idea! I am always chopping my fingers! They just seem to get in the way!
I’m sorry that these didn’t turn out as well as you had hoped. They look and sound so promising!
And cutting chocolate is the worst. I am always afraid I’ll chop off a finger.
I saw that picture on my reader preview, and I was dying to know what it was. Amazing!
yum….I might just throw marshmellows on top of a store bought brownie mix. sometimes I’m lazy. :p
oh my gosh, heaven!!! As a kid I loved campfires and toasted marshmallows. I’d eat practically the whole bag and liked to see how long before they would envelope in flames and I’d end up flinging it somewhere
That looks so delish!
I’ve made the S’mores brownies a la the box-recipe! ha. I wasn’t too impressed either, but mine didn’t have a graham cracker crust. brilliant! Maybe, for the bakery purposes, you could bake them individually in cupcake pans?? (one marshmellow on top of each?)
it’d definitely be harder, but they’d be so cute!
I would definitely stop by for a brownie if I were in the area. I love roasting marshmallows, and s’mores are a summer tradition in my family.
