making it official

I apparently need to stop my late night marathon planning…it’s dangerous!  I’ve been talking for months about how I want to run 26 miles on my 26th birthday, and Erika keeps asking me if I’ve registered for Grandma’s Marathon yet.  Running the New York City Marathon has also been on my mind for a little bit since, HELLO, it’s NEW YORK.  Just ask Jesse about that one and you’ll be convinced that you have to run it as well!

But I digress.

Last night I realized that the deadline to apply for the New York City Marathon lottery was coming up soon…so I might as well get on that!  I have no ideas what my plans for next week are, yet alone November, but I may know soon!  I’m hoping I get into New York since I hear it’s AMAZING and I think it’s one of those marathons that you have to do at some point.  At least in my opinion.

Then tonight…oh dear.  I keep telling myself that you only get one chance to run 26 miles on your 26th birthday, and as a crazy runner girl, I think that sounds like a fantastic idea.  It’s now official that I will be spending my 26th birthday in Minnesota with the great Erika as I run Grandma’s Marathon!!  (She’s not running…she’d kick my butt!  Although it would be awesome to run with her.)  Sadly it’s not ON my 26th birthday, as I graced the world with my presence on the 20th and the race is on the 19th, but it’s close enough and I don’t have to fly to Canada for it!  Plus, I’ll have some great company.  :)   So excited!!

Does anyone else think it’s weird that I’m excited to spend my birthday with someone I’ve never “met” before?  The blogworld is a strange place…

on the home front

Still feeling sicky…blah.  It was another BEAUTIFUL day here, and I finally decided to just try to run.  I made it about a third of a mile before I turned around and came back because I felt awful…maybe tomorrow??  I have a marathon to run in six weeks…and this is supposed to be a big week!  Gah.  Hopefully I’ll feel better soon…hopefully.

NY is definitely worth the experience. Not a fast course by any means (far slower than Boston, IMHO)…but a totally worth doing. And if you don’t get in its super easy to qualify for since you only need a 1:37 half.

It would be wierd if she’s not a runner, but because she is, it’s totally legit! I’ve both housed and been housed by other runners because well, they are runners. We are a special breed, I think. And I’ve honestly never met a runner that wasn’t benevolent or had malicious intent. So whatev.

I totally think it’s so cool you’re running a marathon on your 26th. I ran a marathon 2 years ago a day after my 32nd and it was awesome. The best birthday present for myself I think.

Ooh, I hope you get into NYC! Yes, you definitely have to run it at least once and like I said, if you get in, I’ll lend you a book that talks about the history of every mile on the course so you can get excited!

So many marathons, so little time! Haha!

its totally legit, because a) like the laminator said, runners are a special breed, and b) its ME! I honestly think I might be just as excited as you are… and we can definitely do something fun/special on the 20th to make it official. Like job hunting. Hahahha kidding! Sorta. ;)

I think my tweet last night pretty much said it all: yay. Hah, I’m super jealous that I didn’t get a chance to do 26 on my 26th, especially b/c it was ON the 26th, but there aren’t many marathons the day after Xmas. :p

You might as well head back to Minn. in October for Twin Cities. I’m trying to get in to the 10 mile lottery. :)

That sounds like a great way to spend your 26th birthday to me! Plus meeting new bloggie running friends is always awesome! Hope you feel better soon! On the bright side, at least being sick gives you an excuse to call into work, right?!?

I think it’s awesome that you found a marathon so close to your birthday! You’ll get to spend your day basking in post-race bliss.

I hope you feel better soon!

I think it is AWESOME that you are running 26 on your 26th with not a stranger but A NEW FRIEND!!! :)

I think you should come back and run Kenosha on May 1!

Seriously, my marathon bday (chicago last year for my 26th) was flippin amazing. I seriously ate like 9 cupcakes after the marathon. And birthday cake.

And like AR said, you could easily qualify for NYCM with a 1:37 half. That is my goal for my next half so that I can make sure to get in to the NYCM for 2011. But, fingers crossed you get a lottery place this year!!!
