Positivity

So my life has been turned upside down a little bit lately, and I often feel out of control.  For the past ten months, I’ve worked in a job that I absolutely hate, to the point where I sometimes cry about having to go to work.  I really used to be a happy person who smiled and liked to do fun things!  My mom came to visit once and said, “I want my Susan back”…the one who was happy and didn’t hate life.  I feel like I’ve done a little bit of a better job with trying to be positive and looking for things to make me happy, but that doesn’t mean I don’t have my moments (or days…) where I’m still not happy.  I’ve had more positive posts in addition to my multitude of downer posts (we won’t go there…), and I’m now going to try to have a more positive outlook on life.  My lovely bloggy friend Erika just blogged about this very subject and how your attitude can really change your outlook on life!  While there are times at work when I just want to quit, I want to try and focus on the positive things…such as helping people (aww I’m a nurse!) and not letting things (like a slow pharmacy) get to me.  It’s going to be tough, but it must be done.

What sparked this idea?  Well, I had been visiting lululemon‘s website in anticipation of the opening of their store by my house.  This store exudes positivity.  Just check out their manifesto:

image Check out the text version here.

My favorite ones include:

  • Life is full of setbacks.  Success if determined by how you handle setbacks.
  • Your outlook on life is a direct reflection of how much you like yourself.

How true is that??  I love it.  Easier said than done, however.  But I’m going to try!  I was very happy when I visited lululemon and received this bag as a shopping bag…it can double as a lunch/dinner box or a general small tote!

031510 Positivity (3)It can serve as a reminder to be positive!

I spotted these positivity bracelets awhile ago and kept thinking I should get them as a reminder to look on the bright side of life, but I kept putting off buying them (because I’m cheap, probably), but I finally took the plunge (it wasn’t that hard…) and they arrived in the mail last week.

031510 Positivity (2) Positive reminders…

I never wear jewelry, but I hope that looking down at my wrist will allow me to come back to positive thoughts and remember how good life is, not matter how difficult my job seems at the moment or how much I just want to cry.  I’m still trying to decide what to do with the extra two…maybe some sort of giveaway, or I’ll send them to people who I think could use them?  Still thinking about it!

This is a good day to try out this positivity thing since I have a full five day work week ahead of me, and I’m sure I’ll be pulled to another floor today!  I’m going to need all the positive thoughts I can get!  Let’s start with a few for now:

  • Spring is almost here!  Yes, it’s been raining for the past three days, but it’s not snow and I can run in shorts!
  • I have a job that pays me well.  Even if I don’t like it at all, that’s more than some people can say.
  • I have really, really good friends and family…even if they aren’t close to me (geographically speaking).
  • Some fun things are coming up in life…Boston (hoping to see lots of you in addition to my friend in Boston, my dad, and my college roommate…all who are coming to see me!)…Grandma’s Marathon (visiting Erika!!).
  • Bakery planning with Allie makes me smile every time.
  • Dancing around the living is one of life’s simple pleasures.  I like to do it daily.  You should try it…right now.

So there we have it…my official statement to the (blog) world that I AM going to be more positive.  And try to figure out what to do with my life.  And smile.  I’m going to be happy whether I like it or not…haha.  Okay, that was a bit much, but really…attitude is (at least!) half the battle.  Right?  Right.

So now, help me out!  Tell me something POSITIVE about your day…or life…or anything!

I know how you feel, I’ve been down and hating my job for the past 6 months. Keep your head up and remember to breathe and think positive. I tell myself that every morning before. I look forward to 4:30 every day. lol

I left my job as a Network Engineer in late 2005 to be self-employed in the Film/Video world. It’s be tough but with moments of brilliance.. the economy didn’t help things and i miss the Bennys and 100k income..I’d NEVER go back..
i love the freedom, the activity and just being able to enjoy my time, a coffee on a rainy day with my laptop whenever. NOT being on CALL! <— Ramble

anyways keep your head high and keep doing the great work you do!

you should check out the book The Happiness Project. I’m loving it right now. She has a lot of great suggestions and goals for making small changes in her life that effects her general outlook and attitude.

If you like Lululemon you will probably like Lucy. Have you shopped there?

I used to be a bubble of happiness and positivity that was unburstable. Not so much anymore. I was JUST writing a post on positivity in my head last night for the last 2 months of college (I swear we are on the same page at all times). I think we’ll both find our way back somewhere along the way……to our bakery :)

A girl in one of my classes has a water bottle with those Lululemon sayings and I read them EVERY class…and reflect on my life.

Their manifesto is one of the reasons why I love the company so much. I have a copy of it hanging on my bedroom mirror so I see it everyday. I think you’ve been doing a lot better with your positive posts, and don’t worry about having your Debbie-downer days, we’ve all got ‘em! The bracelets are a good idea, where did you get them? I may have to ‘take the plunge’ too!

Thanks for the shoutout!!! I am SO excited to have you hear in June!! Its pretty much up to you if you’d want to do an extra day either before or after.. but I’d think mayyybe after just because the race would be over and you’d still want to live it up!!

p.s. there are a few Lululemon stores here in the TC area, and the one closest to me had a job opening a while ago that I almost applied for. I know the owner, and it would definitely be a pretty sweet place to work!

YAY positivity! Love you roomie! My favorite BE POSITIVE quote:

“Our lives are not determined by what happened to us, but how we react to what happens, not by what life brings us but by the attitude we bring to life. A positive attitude causes a chain reaction of positive thoughts, events, and outcomes. It is a catalyst, a spark that creates extraordinary results.”

I think it’s so ironic that you chose today to be positive while I chose today to be negative on my blog! Haha! Obviously, I like your attitude way better than mine! I’m hoping tomorrow will be the day things start looking up my way!

Great post! I love the “positivity” bracelet and your general attitude adjustment plans. :-)

Something positive? It is finally starting to warm up in East Central Illinois. I’m sure you know how exciting that is!

The bracelets are so cute! You know there are lots of ups and downs in life and while we aren’t always in control of everthing that happens we do have the ability to change make make things better. Sometimes, you have to put yourself and your happiness first. Find things that make you happy and go after them.
