it’s friday…i’m in love + NUUN GIVEAWAY
Happy Friday, readers!! Less happy for me since I have to work all weekend, but it’ll be worth it because Tuesday morning I’ll be done with work and headed to SEATTLE for the Hood to Coast fun to begin! It feels like just yesterday I was making my video entry and subsequently being picked, and I’m so excited for it to finally be here! Many exciting things have been happening lately, so let’s revisit the “it’s friday…i’m in love” segment of Nurse on the Run and see what I’m in love with this week.
target

The NUUN Hood to Coast teams are running under the blanket name of “Afternuun Delight,” and my team is TEAM NIGHT. While brainstorming decorations and themes, we came up with “Team Night Light” and are wearing all sorts of bright colors. I’m not the flashiest runner, but I know that Target has plenty of bright colored sports bras, so I took a trip up to Harlem (don’t tell my dad, ha) and purchased the above sports bras. I haven’t run shirtless yet this year (until today when I took the highlighter yellow for a test run…), and my abs aren’t quite what they used to be, but I’m excited to glow in the night!
i’m not going to be homeless

I’ve been doing the NYC apartment search for about a month now, and I’m way too excited about the fact that I found an apartment! In case you don’t know, the NYC market is ridiculous and the way that you have to find an apartment is really annoying. You basically have to use a broker, and the brokers charge fees (generally 15% of your rent for the YEAR, aka $$$$)…and the brokers are basically showing you apartments that you found online. Plus you usually need to look only a couple weeks before you move, and the owners are currently jacking their prices so it’s not the best time to rent.
HOWEVER. After talking to multiple brokers, seeing nearly 15-20 apartments, wanting one apartment but finding out it was taken, deciding to live with a new roommate only find that the guy is staying in his room, wanting another apartment but another guy took it the second I left…….I finally got an apartment. It’s a studio only a few blocks from where I currently live. It’s not huge. The kitchen is small. Closet space isn’t the best. But the location is quite nice (two blocks from the UES Bears bar…), it’s a fifth floor apartment with an elevator, and laundry is in the basement. No door man, but the dry cleaners next door accept packages.
And the best thing? IT’S MINE ALL MINE. I am SO excited to live by myself. Now I just need to buy a couch, and let’s not mention how I’m actually going to be homeless for a few days. Details. Life is good.
I CAN RUN AGAIN I CAN RUN AGAIN
My back feels amaaaaaaazing. Amazing. Phenomenal. So good. High fives for everyone. While I won’t say that I’m in the clear and 100% better, I’m excited that not every step is spent worrying about whether or not there will be pain in my back. I’m not afraid to ask someone to go running. Don’t tell anyone, but I’m spending more and more time researching future marathons. I even ran along the West Side Highway today, which was the site of my last round of pain. I made it there and back. It was nice. My legs are sore, my back is not. So happy.
sleeping at night
Last night was the first solid sleep I’ve gotten in about two weeks. For some reason, I’ve been doing this whole “only sleep for three hours at a time” thing which is just about as exciting as it sounds. Yesterday was a schedule flip day, and since I only sleep for three hours at a time anyway, I got up around noon after work…then passed out at 11:30pm and slept until about 7:30 this morning. You have no idea what a luxury it is to sleep at night…and sleep through the whole night. HOORAY.
GIVEAWAYYYY

In this spirit of HOOD TO COAST being next week, I’m doing a NUUN giveaway! Gotta share the nuun love, right? I’ve sent nuun to a few random people before, but the stakes are higher this time…WATER BOTTLES are involved!
Basically, if you win, I’ll send you a fabulous nuun water bottle (I always have one with me…) and some nuun so you can try it out for yourself!
To enter:
1) Visit the nuun website and tell me what flavor you’d like to try OR tell me what your favorite flavor nuun currently is!
2) In the spirit of Hood to Coast, leave you best relay tip OR if you haven’t run a relay, what relay would you like to run?
Entry will be open until 8am on Tuesday, August 21st (aka when I get off from work!), and I’ll pick a winner before I head off to Seattle!

Congrats on the new place! Living alone is something everyone should do at least once in their life.
My favorite Nuun flavor is citrus fruit or strawberry lemonade.
Target has the best sports bras! I love the C9 Champion compression ones.
I want some strawberry lemonade Nuun!
Relay tip…sleep as much as you can in the van?
Cucumber Mint! It sounds so refreshing!
I would love to try strawberry lemonade or tropical!
i want to try strawberry lemonade!
I love the lemon one. And I’ve only run one relay so far in my running career, the Seneca 7 and I loved every moment of it.
Congrats on your new apartment! I loved living alone. You won’t regret it.
I’m a fan of Nuun, but have never tried the Nuun “All Day” so would love to try it, especially the Blueberry pomegranate flavor.
I think my tip is to bring lots of snacks!
My favorite flavor of nuun – right now – is grape. Or banana. Or orange. I’d love to try the strawberry lemonade, though!
I have never run a relay, but I’d love to run Hood to Coast or Ragnar. They both look like a lot of fun.
I love the bears bar! My old roommate practically lives there.
Also, strawberry lemonade! And I’ve never run a relay – I’m not sure I’d be a great teammate since I don’t do well without sleep/in vans and am a “morning run before coffee or it doesn’t happen” type person. That said, I’ve toyed with the idea of reach the beach NJ or SoCal Ragnar. However, I might be doing a swim relay next year around Manhattan!
I’d love to try the kona cola flavor! I’ve never run a relay but I’d love to run Hood to Coast.
Current favorite is grape! Although, I have many more to try..
1. Would love to try the Blueberry Pomegranate! (Currently my favorite flavor is the Mixed Berry—look what you started, you!)
2. Also, best relay tip I can give is to refuel immediately following your leg for a speedy recovery! Our team noshed on potato chips for salt intake and peanut butter samiches for protein!
Yes, I said ‘nosh.’
Yay, you! You’re back on the mend and it makes me so happy! <3
Strawberry Lemonade is the best!
I like the blueberry pomegranate!!!
I want to run whichever relay my NYC Friends want to run. Anyone live in NYC and need someone with a half marathon pace of around 8:30 to run a relay??? PICK ME!!!
My favorite nuun flavor is iced tea although there are a bunch I want to try…
In addition, the relay I would most like to do is Hood to Coast as it is the iconic one that everyone talks about : )
Oh man! Have so much fun at Hood to Coast! I actually found your blog through other peoples H2C recaps last year. (is that a legit abbreviation? If not I’m making it one.)
My fav Nuun flavor is bananna! So delicious. I’ve been dying to try Nuun all day too.
well not entering the giveaway of course…got the same one on my blog now…
just want to say I am really looking forward to meeting you and I am REALLY happy your back is good!!!!! fantastic news!!!!
I’ve been reading your blog for awhile now (found via 26 and then some) so it’s probably about time to comment. I’m a fellow nurse who began running a year ago and I find your blog to be so down to earth and relatable. I’m so glad your back is allowing you to return to your passion!
1) I’d love to try the tangerine ginger
2) Bring febreeze
I love strawberry lemonade nuun! And grape! And tropical… Oh I have a problem.
.
Relay tip: bring large ziplocks for your smelliest clothes.
I would like to try KONA KOLA! That sounds so yum! I also love grape! Relay tip: BABY WIPES! BAM!
Good luck and have fun!
I’d love to try the strawberry lemonade nuun! And I’ve never done a relay (and don’t know if I ever will) but if I do I want to do reach the beach MA
I love Fruit Punch Nuun, but you know what I love even more than that? That stinking water bottle. It’s just so perfectly squishy! I have one on my bike and basically live in fear that I will have to ditch it on the side of the road someday when I can’t get it back into the cage. So I would like another so I can relax a little. I’m also pretty excited about trying the tangerine lime Nuun All Day.
I’ve never done a relay, but I’d love to do Ragnar Napa someday.
There’s so much good stuff happening in this post! So glad your back is feeling great and you found an apartment. I seriously think apartment hunting in this city is the most stressful thing you can deal with. Last time we were apartment hunting I was also job hunting. That was not a fun experience but all worked out in the end! Have a great time at HTC!
I’d love to try the lemon tea nuun. I haves done a relay yet, but I’d love to do River to Sea next year.
Oh my goodness, finding and renting an apartment in NYC sounds so different and more challenging than what we go through in Texas! Big congrats!
I love strawberry lemonade NUUN, but would love to try one of the tea flavors. I can’t seem to find them at my regular NUUN supplier.
I haven’t run a relay race before, but would love to – seems like everyone has a great time and close friendship bonds are formed. Can’t wait to read Hood to Coast recaps.
hooray for finding your own place closer to meeee! Laundry in the building is definitely money. And, if you are indeed going to be homeless, I have a pullout couch, FYI
I’m very glad you’re running again!
Favorite Nuun: currently citrus fruit. sometimes that fluctuates with lemon lime and grape.
I’ve never run a relay because I’m too anal and slightly high maintenance. From reading others experiences, I’d say a good tip is to bring those shower wipes, have access to coffee, get a headlamp and probably always have toilet paper readily available…
Yay for your own place!!!! That is so fantastic! And yay for no back pain!!!! Even more fantastic
I’d like to try one of the all day flavors. Currently I love the lemonade flavor I have.
I’ve not done a relay except for a team triathlon, which isn’t nearly the same. I’d love to try one someday and I can’t wait to hear how yours goes – it sounds so fun!
Hi Susan,
This is my first time commenting here but I’ve been reading your blog for a while. I even saw you once – at the Hot Chocolate race in DC.
I would love to try the Nuun All Day Hydration, especially the Tangerine lime flavor.
I’ve never done a relay so I don’t have any tips, but I would love to do one someday – any relay really, just as long as I find people to run with. None of my friends run
Looking forward to your HTC recap and your next DC race.
I love lemon lime!
I think the lemon-lime sounds really good! I am always looking for new ways to stay hydrated on long runs.
My relay tip from doing the Ragnar Chicago is to make sure the next runner is there on time!
The grape raspberry flavor sounds delicious! I’ve tried almost every flavor of the regular Nuun but haven’t tried any of the Nuun All Day yet.
<3 the blog and giveaways
1-Would like to try the mint flavor
2-Relay tip would be to get to know the other teams, so fun making new friends
I would love to try cucumber mint! I’m so excited to read all of the HTC tips/recaps because I’m running the RTB:NJ relay in October with my husband!
I didn’t realize there were so many flavors! I would love to try the strawberry lemonade.
Congrats on the new apartment. One thing I never realized before I lived by myself, I am really messy and leave my crap all over the place when I don’t have a roommate to consider.
I did my first relay this year and it was Ragnar Chicago! My best tip is get plenty of sleep before because you won’t get much during!
Hi there, frequent reader, rare commenter here. I am dealing with a really stubborn mystery hip/back issue myself and was, of course, thrilled to read you are doing so much better. I wouldn’t mind hearing what did and did not work for you. Did you try regular cortisone injections or PT first? And did they help at all? Also, what was your final diagnosis? Thank you, thank you! I look to you and other healing runners for inspiration. I am becoming very depressed and frustrated in my journey.
Big fan of Tri Berry! And I’m headed to my first relay, the Bourbon Chase, next month!
I’d like to try the Grapefruit Orange Nuun All Day. It sounds delicious!
Hood to Coast sounds amazing. I’ve never done a relay, but I’d love to try a Ragnar Relay and/or the Bourbon Chase. I think my husband would really enjoy the latter.
Yeah good luck with Hood to Coast – my favorite flavor is tri-berry but i would like to try tropical!I’ve never run a relay before, but once my back gets better i’m on a team to run the Ocean to Sound Relay in Long Island next month!
I would like to try strawberry lemonade:)
I didnt leave where I would like to do a relay in my original comment! There is one in the D.C area that I would like to do someday
