It’s been awhile (weeks? months? YEARS? Let’s not be too dramatic…) since I’ve done a version of what I’m loving. But there’s been some good stuff recently, so let’s go with that. And I’m sure many of you are gearing up for a three day weekend, so I’ll give you some reading material. (Note: What I don’t love is heading into work on Friday night of a long weekend of normal working people…it’ll be fine.) So onto the latest version of “It’s Friday…I’m in love.”
mumford and sons
On Wednesday, I trekked out to Queens with some nurses to see Mumford and Sons play. They played in a tennis court where the Beatles played, and where Jimi Hendrix apparently got booed off the stage. While some bands aren’t good live, Mumford and Sons were amazing…go see them if you ever get a chance! Favorite songs include Hopeless Wanderer and Lover of the Light.
If you haven’t heard yet, Jocelyn is moving west to Bend, Oregon (are you from Bend? Be her friend!). She had a happy hour at Gingerman (where else?) last night, so it was fun to meet a bunch of runners/twitter people I hadn’t met yet. As Jocelyn pointed out when I left, I was her first internet friend (I mean…I can’t actually make friends in real life, I have to con you into liking me on the internet first) and she had tons of people from the NYC online running community there. You’ve come so far, my friend. I just wish you weren’t going so far away!
But she does have a cool job lined up. Check it out. (Do you hire nurses??) (Just kidding.) (Maybe.)
boston is opening soon
The Boston Marathon announced its plans for next years marathon, including the registration schedule and how they are increasing the field size to 36,000 for 2014 (only). I haven’t decided if I want to run it or not…or if I want to do a spring marathon. (More on that later?) but I guess I need to make a decision soon! To be honest, my current time for Boston is what I ran at Boston this year, and that was 3:31…and I’m not sure that will be fast enough to get in. Many people want to run it this year, although to have a qualifying time you were most likely already in training when the marathon/bombs happened, so maybe there’s a chance. I guess we’ll see…are you planning on running??
just a nurse
(Small?) chances are you’ve seen this floating around the internet, more liking if you’re a nurse. (Shout out to my nurse readers…especially those working this holiday weekend!) A nurse named Kate posted a blog post titled “Just a Nurse”…and reading it, you’ll see how true it is. Most people have no idea what it is that a nurse actually does, and I find it difficult to explain when someone asks me what all I do at work. Worth a read if you’re a nurse, know a nurse, or are none of the above. I promise.
fourth annual girls’ weekend
Last weekend, I headed to Atlantic City for our annual girls’ weekend. It’s a wide range of friends…Sara, Kimmy, other friends from college, friends of friends…but it’s all fun. Laying on the beach, hanging in the casino (I say “hanging” since I don’t gamble), and just hanging out. Life is good. And, proof that sometimes I don’t wear scrubs or running clothes.
Oh yeah, I’m back at that too! My back has seen better days, but it’s mainly a little stiff when I start running and warms up after a mile or two. Sometimes my hips/butt feel tight the entire run, which makes me nervous and I end up running loops of the bridle path. Some people love those loops, I do not. Especially when you do five of them. But at least the water fountains were always nearby!
That’s all I’ve got for now! Gearing up for working and doing more reading for school…this will be theme for the next three years. SO EXCITING.
