About
who is nurse on the run?
Hello! My name is Susan, otherwise known as Nurse on the Run. I’m a Chicago girl through and through, having spent seventeen years of my life in a suburb of the greatest city in the world. (Not that I’m biased or anything!) I spent my high school years on the cross country and track teams, as well as in the marching band. (Trombone chicks unite!) When I graduated from high school, I headed east to attend the University of Maryland (go terps!) and received a degree in dietetics in 2007. After graduation, I headed back to Chicago to attend nursing school at Rush University. After an intense one year accelerated program, I received a bachelors of science in nursing in December 2008.
My job search brought me to eastern Pennsylvania to be closer to a boy, and although that didn’t work out, I learned a lot. My first job was at a community hospital on a medical/surgical floor, which basically means anything and everything. In September 2010, I will be starting as a burn unit nurse in NEW YORK CITY!
Besides nursing, the main feature of my blog is running! I’ve been running since the sixth grade (that’s 1997 if you want specifics), so I’ve spent over half my life as a runner. I ran my first marathon in 2006…Marine Corps! My second was the 2007 Chicago Marathon, also known as the Heat Wave. The third time was the charm and I qualified for Boston in May 2009 at the Wisconsin Marathon with a time of 3:33. I ran the Philadelphia Marathon in 2009 in 3:35 and just ran my first BOSTON MARATHON in 3:46. My IT band isn’t always my friend, but I love running and have been trying to smile through whatever comes my way.
Come live my journey with me!
HI SUSAN!! Your new site (so exciting!!) just made my morning 239403 times better! I agree, this customization/web design stuff is super confusing. I spent many hours with my brows all funky trying to figure it out. I’m glad you took the plunge though! I think it’s totally worth it.
HOORAY!
Hi Susan!
I just love the new look of your site. Just noticed the quote in the upper right hand corner about wanting to look good naked. SO true! Love it
Hi Susan! I just found your blog ! I also qualified for Boston in the same time..3:33!!!! I am doing a 12-week training program now as well! So exciting! Although you are much, much, much faster than me! haha I have lost a lot of speed over so I am trying to regain it.
So happy to have found your blog! Seems like we might have some things in common. I am also a nurse (L&D) and I’m a runner and have a running blog
I’m also very interested in Dietetics. I’ve lost 115 pounds through diet and exercise and I would love to go back to school to become a Dietician, but I probably never will. Can’t wait to keep up with you through your blog.
Hi! I’m new to your blog and really enjoying it so far! I am also a nurse and a runner. I work in the ICU and am slowly working toward running my first marathon, though at a much slower pace than you.
Hello there. I just wanted to thank you for posting this blog. I came across it while I was online. I am a new graduate nurse as well–6 months now to be exact–on a busy Medical-Surgical floor in Ohio. I am originally from a suburb of Chicago and moved out to Ohio because of my boyfriend too. Anyways, I still share your love for Chicago…. who doesn’t?! But… I wanted to thank you for posting because it gives me hope that I can make it through my first year… even if it is really rough.
Hi Susan. Enjoyed reading your blog and following you on Twitter. Not sure how you’ve had time to train but you are a talented runner with great results. I’ve been a runner for a long time and was pretty competitive until recent injuries. I’m sure you know how a good workout can change your mood from bad to good. I’ve missed that more than you could know.
Taking a bit of a chance here as I sent you a bit of a stupid tweet. Would love to share some running stories with you as well as food stories as I am a bit of a foodie.
Take care. On-on.
Dean
